Joss Whedon talks about casting Batgirl

Is Avengers filmmaker Joss Whedon a turncoat to the Marvel universe, walking across the street to Warner Bros. where he's in talks to helm its DC pic Batgirl? . "Like, What's her damage?" he told Heat Vision. Whedon said. "She didn't have her parents killed in an alley".

"I think it's super exciting".

Whedon, who had previously written a treatment for his own Wonder Woman movie a decade ago, was last said to be working on a World War II horror movie, but he has stated previously that he would like to make a Batman film.

While I'm sure a lot of people are upset that their fan-casting probably won't happen, it's exciting to hear that Whedon is looking for the flawless actor, instead of just settling with the most famous option. "I feel like I'm creating this character, I'm going to (have a) dialogue with her, and then we'll see who joins that later on".

"I don't know", Whedon said with a laugh.

Speaking to Variety, the writer/director mentioned that he doubted his pick for Batgirl would be a "name", not because he's opposed to the idea of casting someone well-known, but because it won't factor into his decision at all.

"What I'm looking for in a Batgirl is probably somebody new, somebody who is willing to go the distance". This is somewhere where you go and find Batgirl and then you cast her ...

Whedon's "Batgirl" film clearly has everyone excited, but it's in a very early phase. "I'm not against it, but I'm not looking for Easter eggs - I'm still trying to write a movie!"

THR caught up with Joss Whedon at the event who discussed his motivations for directing the Batgirl movie for the DCEU and WB. Whedon then jokingly added: "Definitely Vin Diesel".

It certainly sounds like Joss Whedon has already started on the project and is preparing to find the flawless Batgirl.
