San Francisco: Apple iPhone 8 may have fingerprint reader at back

Multiple sources claim the iPhone 8 will arrive several weeks after Apple's iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus. But in order to have a larger screen size, Apple might be getting rid of the iPhone's home button. DigiTimes reported today that the company's chip suppliers will start stocking solutions for this year's models, of which the iPhone 8 is expected to be one of three choices.

We've been hearing a range of rumored prices for the iPhone 8, and about the only thing we can glean from all the reports is that it will probably be even more expensive than Apple's other iPhones. It also leads customers to buy other Apple devices like the iPad and Apple Watch, and serves as a home for lucrative services like the App Store. The company is also expected to establish brand new facilities for component manufacturing at a second location later.

The latest pass at the rumor mill suggests that Apple may indeed ditch the bezel, forcing it to move the Touch ID fingerprint scanner to the back of the phone, according to an image from notable leaker Sonny Dickson. The iPhone 8 might also have smaller bezels all the way around its new OLED display. "This arrangement would allow engineers to design a smartphone or tablet with a true edge-to-edge, or full-face display", reported earlier this year. It's now unclear if that feature will make it into the final product.

While nothing is written in stone yet and we're working on best guesses based on hints and leaks from Apple's supply chain, there's growing confidence we have a good idea of what the iPhone 8 will look like. The state is keeping a proactive approach to help pursue Apple's case with the Centre government.

With every update, Apple's plan to manufacture in India is one step closer to reality. Some prototypes in testing continue to include the slight camera bump found on current iPhones, rather than having them flush with the back surface, the people said.

Kuo goes on to explain that Samsung's inaugural adoption of a dual-lens camera system will be "the most important upgrade" to the Note 8, and that it will likely boast a myriad of advanced features including "3x optical zoom, 12MP wide-angle CIS supporting dual photodiode (2PD), 13MP telephoto CIS, dual 6P lenses and dual OIS". The AirPods Bluetooth headphones, released previous year, use low-energy communications chips that Apple got through its purchase of Passif Semiconductor 2013.
