Prescott Among 9 Locations Where Whole Foods Closing Stores

Whole Foods continues to restructure as its plans for the year further unfold. It will shutter locations on Baseline Road in Boulder and at the First & Main Town Center in Colorado Springs, representatives at each store confirmed Thursday. The company says they're hoping to move the employees to positions at nearby stores.

Whole Foods Market might be based in Austin, but the first of its low-priced stores, called 365 by Whole Foods, opened previous year in California, Oregon and Washington state.

The closure leaves New Mexico with three Whole Foods stores, one in Santa Fe and two in Albuquerque.

The location on St. Francis Drive was a Wild Oats grocery store before that natural foods chain merged with Whole Foods Market in 2007.

On the same day the company announced it will be closing these stores, Whole Foods announced it has signed leases for new 365 stores in both Brooklyn, New York, and Oakland, California. Easy Tiger will serve its full menu, and JuiceLand will serve light snacks, juices and smoothies.

"We remain optimistic about the future growth potential for our 365 format but want to see how this next round of stores perform before getting more aggressive", said John Mackey, Co-founder, and CEO of Whole Foods in a report by the Austin Business Journal.

"As we work to position Whole Foods Market for long-term success, we have carefully evaluated our portfolio of stores to align with a more thoughtful growth strategy", a spokeswoman said in a statement.
